Jet mud mixer can change the density, viscosity and water loss effectively, and also enhance material dispersion effect, improve the mixed liquid pressure head.


Sand pump and jet mixing hopper can either be combined or be installed separately, and they are connected by pipelines and valves. Seals adopt packing and mechanical double seal, with good sealing performance.


Single jet mud mixer is made up of one sand pump, one jet mixing hopper that are installed in a base with pipe valves. Duplex jet mud mixer is composed of two sand pumps and two jet mixing hoppers.

How to select  and what impact mud mixing hopper unit impact 

First we shoud confirm treating capacity we need. And for oil and gas drilling kindly suggest 150m³/h flow rate. Then confirm pump,neceddary pipelines and also can depends on suppler suggestion 

Mixing hopper hydraulic consumption should be as little as possible, otherwise the flow rate may decrease by too much
Distance between Venturi hopper and nozzle should be proper. The optimal distance should be 32~90mm
Output pressure should be designed properly. If the discharge port pressure is too high the flow rate of mixing pump will be lower than expected
The higher pressure at inlet port the higher flow rate of mixing hopper
The higher hopper mounted the lower mixing capacity

General description of Jet mud mixing pump

Jet mud mixing pump is also referred as jet mud mixer or mixing hopper pump. It’s combination of hopper and pump. The hopper type can be Venturi or swirl type. The mixing pump is widely used in oil and gas drilling fluids process. It is used to compound new drilling fluids and mix the active mud when necessary. For some civil construction application, the mud mixing pump is widely used for bentonite mixing, too. Compared to mud agitator, the mixing pump can mix the fluids through whole mud system by connected lines and transfer compounded mud to any tank or compartment.

 In some mud system, the mud mixer is fit as integration on the mud tank skid. Some of them will be fit as separated pump and hopper. Some hoppers are set on tank top and connected with pump by pipe. While the oter mixing pumps are an assembly of pump and hopper on a separated base set beside mud tank. Different configuration meet the different requirement or demand of users. But the final result and effect is same. They need to produce new proper drilling fluids or drilling mud. 

Besides the oil well drilling, mud mixing pump is widely used in HDD mud recycling system. The difference is usually the HDD mud mixing pump smaller than oil drilling one

How to select Jet mud mixing pump

Mud hopper pump capacity is defined by mud hopper size and pump. For example, the hopper including 4” or 6” port one. And the diameter is 400mm-700mm. For pump, the normal type for mixing hopper including APSB8X6, APSB6X5 and APSB5x4 driven by 75HP, 50HP, 30HP motor. The flow rate is about 400-1200GPM. To select proper mixing pump, please consider the flow rate of the whole mud system. Almost of clients prefer Venturi hopper to the swirl hopper because of high capacity and dust-free design. Furthermore, the Ventri hopper is more compact than swirl hopper

In a complete mud system, how many sets mixing pump do we need? It’s depending on mud flow rate of whole system. And the mixing pump can be assembled together with shearing pump we call it jet shearing pump. Furthermore, different users prefer different configuration on mud system. The mixing pump skid can be fit only one mixing hopper pump, or 2 sets of mixing hopper pump. And usually the 2 sets of mixing pump work simultaneously for sufficient fluids productivity

Different configuration on mud mixing pumps. In almost mud system, the mixing hopper pump is set at end of mud tank. They are assembly of hopper, pump, skid. In some system, there are 2 complete set of mixing pump. That means 2 hoppers and 2 centrifugal pump. For some clients, they prefer the separated mixing skid in a frame. The hopper can be in a separated frame or just a single hopper connected with all lines input and discharge. The pipings connected with mixing pump including the input line, discharge line, some are fit with T port for convenient mud transfer among tanks and compartments
